Daniel,

Info on loading for the 577 2-3/4" Nitro is in the 2nd edition of Graeme Wright, Shooting the British Double Rifle.

He, and other references, note that both the 3" and the 2-3/4" 577 Nitro both used 90 grains of cordite with a 650 grain bullet for 1950 fps and 12.5 tpsi pressure with the 2-3/4" case.

In his efforts to work up a load, Wright tried some duplex powders and DID NOT/NOT recommend doing this.

He found, using a Bertram case, Fed 215 primer and Woodleigh 650 grain soft point that 131 grains of IMR 4831 would produce 2050 fps with a pressure of 11.3 tpsi. He argued and rifles should regulate BELOW this load.

I'd start at closer to 120 grains and maybe use the slightly slower H4831. You NEED good loading density; you do NOT want a lot of airspace between the powder and the seated bullet head. Put in a filler if you must.

Apologies if I am telling you what you already know, but I'll accompany this with the usual disclaimers about double checking with the published source itself, risk, etc. I have not myself tried this load.

Regards, Tim
