A smart decision........
Well I went out to Cabelas tonight....the one in Hamburg, and bought a reloading kit. It comes with everything except the dies. So Im going to have to purchase dies for the 460 Weatherby obviously, because its the only rifle I have. Any way could anyone reccomend a powder and load for 500 grain Barnes X bullets in the 460 Weatherby.

Positron,
An alltime best plinking load for the 460 Wby is 115 grains of IMR 4350 with 500 grain Hornady RNSP. It is accurate, moderate, and gave 2500 fps with 500 grain bullets in my MkV Japanese made factory rifle from 1985. For me it was a bug-holer with scope.

This load is so adaptable it will be great with any of the 4350's: IMR, Hodgdon Extreme, or Accurate Arms.

Any 500 grain bullet, and the TSX .458cal 500 grainer would indeed be great, with 115 grains of one of the 4350's: F-215 primer and Wby brass made by Norma.

Maybe you should start at 110 grains and don't go any higher than 120 grains, working up and chronographing, and toughening up your shoulder and your head as you go. thumb

Order a crate of remmington 405gr bullets, and start with them at 2200fps... this is the perfect 45 caliber plinking load

Jeffeoso, can those 405 gr. bullets be driven that fast??? I thought they were for the 405 win. and at speeds less than 2000 f/s ?

405 Win = 0.411, 405gr Rem = .458... And yes, those 405gr .458 bullets can withstand 2200fps. They're actually not "that" bad of a bullet regardless of price. Far from a premium, but not crap either. Enjoy Smiler

Heh, the 405 rem can go pretty fast, if you are shooting paper... they are a .458 caliber ballistic tip at 2500 on game.. like Mancannon's avatar

Jeffeosso,

Your 405 grainer @ 2200 FPS sounds perfect. I would like to use this in my 458 Lott. What propellant and what quantity are you using? Thanks in advance. Best, Starcharvski
