Paul KCZ 416 in the corner
Gentleman:
I bought this CZ 550 in 416 Rigby in 1998,I shot it a couple of times and didn't care for the Lux stock. I then bought a Ruger Safari Magnum in the same caliber, early model with the heavy barrel, which I shot extensivly for our up and coming Buffalo/Plains Game hunt with HHK Safaris in 2000.
Last year I picked the CZ up ,took it to the garage and took the belt sander to the stock and modified that Lux stock to my liking and back to the corner it went. It wasn't till a couple of weeks ago that I started thinking about the this rifle and its twist rate, 1 in 16 or 16 1/2. It should stabilize the the 340gr Woodliegh's pretty good. So I mounted an old 3X Leupold with the CPC reticle on it ,loaded up 10 RDS with 100.0grs of H4350, took a box of 400gr reloads for zeroing the scope and put this dog through its paces. Well, 2 shots on paper at 100 yds, two 3 shot 3/4" groups with the 400gr loads and three 3 shot 1/2" groups with the 340gr Woodliegh's!! This rifle is definetly going to get a lot more attention from me. A new stock a little polishing here and there a blue job. You know,a new pair of shoes a new dress and a bath and WOW!!

GeorgeSThat CZ sounds like a keeper, Paul. How does the Ruger shoot in comparison?

My Ruger shoots very well.I use 98.0grs of IMR4831, Bell brass, Fed.215 match primers,410gr Woodliegh's and 400gr Speer AGS solids at 2425fps fom my chrono. Before we left for Zim in 2000 I put 10 shots, 5 Woodliegh's and 5 Speer's into 1 hole at 100yds that measured just over an 1 1/4". I never tried the 340gr Woodliegh's in this rifle. This Ruger , though a bit barrel heavy is one of the most accurate rifles that I own.

Just went outside and remeasured the groups, I was mistaken the 400gr Hornady's went into just under 1" and the 340gr Woodliegh's were right at 5/8". Sorry.

I haven't chronographed them yet but hope to next week end. When I do, I will post the results of a couple of different loads.

D HunterThose CZ 416's are pretty amazing rifles. Mine is MOA or less with several loads. Using the 325 North Fork bullets loaded to a sedate 2600 FPS it is moa all the way out to 300 yards. I have loaded these all the way up to 2900+ but the accuracy and recoil were not to suit me. The milder load was more to suit in both departments. Please post pictures with new dress and shoes when ready for the prom or Africa or some such. Good hunting. D
