Laminated stocks for the CZ550???
I have ran search engines trying to find custom laminated stocks listed specifically for the CZ550 Safari Magnum to no avail. I have also ran a search on this forum to no avail. Would any of you fine contributors know where I could find a custom laminated stock for my beloved .416? How about any GOOD gunsmiths that you've previously done business with that would not only make the stocks but also do a proper bedding job too? Thanks for any input as I don't personally want a McMillian(read synthetic) on this rifle. [Frown]

MC,
look up
www.rifle-stocks.com

it'll cost you at least 100 bucks for a proper bed job, or it should, as you'll need recoil lugs.

are you planning on shooting off hand alot? then get the round forearm, really... and have a gunsmith measure you for LOP.

best of luck

Thanks for the info J! I like the lines of the Modern Classic Style with the standard oval forearm. I'm looking at either the Brown/Brown or for a more exotic look I also considered the Tigerwood laminate.

I am assuming by your statement that the action will need a secondary recoil lug in order to rid the barrel of its secondary lug. Am I correct? Also, most of the gunsmiths I have done business with have all worked basically on varmint rifles(ie my 6mm Ackley, and a 6mm PPC HV). Would you care to refer me to a competent smith that you have done business with to do work on this Big Bore? [Confused]

Geeze, now you have me wondering. If I rid the barrel of its secondary lug(if I understood you correctly), I probably also need a good straight contour barrel with ribbed express sights of better quality than the CZ's in order to make good with a free floated barrel. Maybe I'll shorten the barrel by 3 inches to a finished length of 24 inches for better portability. See what you started! [Big Grin]

I found another full time custom stockmaker by chance. His site is here: http://www.claudegatewood.com/ His work looks well done! He even offers laminated stocks. Has anyone done business with him? Note the custom CZ550 Safari Mag. on the bottom of the homepage(see also in the Photos section). [Cool]
