Yes, I had an order in with Bauska, but when I called after a couple of weeks he said that he couldn't find a 475 button, so I changed the order for a .375 barrel. I ordered a 475 barrel from Montana rifle co. The barrel got here pretty fast, but the internal finish has me wondering. It has an occasional reaming mark/ring inside the barrel about every 1.5 to 2". I think that it will shoot alright, it just doesn't look as nice as the Pac-Nor barrels I got last time. I'm going to go ahead and turn it down and put it in my 470.
I'd like to get a pair of .475 Bauska barrels. Are you going to contact them or should we all call and express and interest? I was going to call anyways, just not right now. Is there 550 button in yet?

so, 2 for me, 2 for dan, and 2 for lars...

I think that's enough to get their interest

I'll leave this open a day or so.. and I'll be calling on the 550 barrel today or tomorrow

The reason to go with Bauska is that his barrel blanks are $55 including shipping! We bought 4 .510 barrel blanks a while back and for the money they were fine. I will be in for 2 barrels, my neighbor is building a 470 Capstick (already has the reamer) and I still want to try a 458-475 wildcat in a Mauser. I am off tomorrow, I will try to get up with him and see if we can pay seperately and still get the discount, I'm sure he won't care as long as he gets his orders.

I would insist on an intregal lug (I will) and I'll send bauska a barrel profile when i get the proverbial round tuit

Yeah Jeffe, I'm still out of pocket but get to shoot the Dillion Gatlin and the M60. My 'smith has finished the metal work and inletting on the 376. He's now doing the 20 coats of Truoil. Will be finished well before I get back in December. What should I make on my last '36 Mexican? Besides the 376 I have a 257AI Bob. I want something nobody else has. (or at least not many folks have) I'll talk to you in December about the Remington Enfield and a big boomer.

Maybe a 7 Mauser AI, Bob? Nice cartridge and fits well in the Mexican action. - Dan

Hi Dan, I'v thought about the 7 X 57 and the 6.5 X 57. Should be easy to make work since the '36s were originally 7 X 57. I have that new book on world cartridges coming to help make a decision. (not cartridges of the world but the other one) I'm going to make a decision by September so he can get started on it.

I called today and will send the order in the beginning of next week. He quoted $90 for a contoured barrel with the intergal recoil lug + shipping.

Yep, now I have to get back to the 458/475 Winchester Magnum project. Does anyone have 458 brass and 475 Linebaugh or 480 Ruger dies? I need to see if you can open up a 458 Win Mag to take the 475 bullet, basically a short 470 Capstick. The inside of the neck might have to be reamed some, but hopefully it will work. I figure with the .475 pistol bullets it will be a neat little carbine round in a Mauser. I could send someone the brass and some .475 pistol bullets if they could try to put some dummies together for me...

I thought we talked about the 475/458 like in oct... I tried opening it up... looked like HELL, but, fire formed, who knows...

how about a 475/110 (off the 50/110) in a single or double?

Another interesting cartridge is the .475 GNR on the 1895 Marlin by Gary Reeder. A local gent had one that I almost got to shoot!

That is not encouraging about the 458-475 If it is just ugly I have ugly rifles why not rounds... Oh well. Any ideas on what .475 I can fit in a Mauser? I would rather keep the rim diameter around the H&H mag or maybe .404 Jeffery size, I have seen .500 Jeffery in a Mauser and it didn't give me a warm and fuzzy!

I have a 475 GNR Rifle barrel-TC Encore-it is a 45-70 blown out to 475. 500gr at about 1600 fps.

Hey Bob, if you want something NO ONE has, try the 5.6 x 57 RWS. I'll sell you my brass and dies and then you'll be the sole U.S. shooter . Really, it's a pretty nifty round (7 x 57 necked down to .223) designed for heavy bullets. Slightly more case capacity than the Swift. 10 years ago it didn't make a whole lot of sense but with all the heavy 22 caliber bullets it makes a pretty serious deer rifle.
Or you could go the other way and chamber a 416 Steyr to pair up with your 376.

Thanks Tiggertate, Both sound interesting but the 416 Steyr really got my attention. Is that a wildcat or have I just not heard of it? I have a new ammo and ballistics book coming but don't have any references with me now.

I have shot it (about 20 rounds of factory) and am very impressed with how light the felt recoil is . Of course I have been shooting the 416 Remington a bit lately. I have everything I need to reload except the time. I don't like the fact that with Leupold QD bases the iron sights are partially blocked That, the difficulty of getting magazines and the occasional rumor about problems with the bolt (light strikes, there was a thread about it not too long ago) are in the back of my mind though. I have to admit that my neighbor has had a Forester in 7mm-08 for years with no problems at all.

It's a wildcat that's becoming pretty popular. I think it has been mentioned in a couple of other threads; you might try a search. Steyr had some original desire to produce it but the plan fell apart when the plant was sold. It may yet be resurrected.

I've read about the bolt issue too but it seems as much internet legend as reality. I've known and owned many many Steyrs and not ever seen a problem, FWIW. Sometimes I think those things happen afer someone has done a little trigger work they don't care to discuss . Then on the otherhand, no production process is mistake-free.

Like I say the neighbor's rifle has never given him any problems, I think you may be right about kitchen table gunsmiths and the trigger. I have some of the 260 Nosler Accubond bullets that I am going to try and work up a load for, I won't have any problems taking this rifle hunting.
