404 jeffery shooter, what now?

Ok, we all know NF is going to be out of bus. soon & who knows when Mikes great bullets will resurface under a diff. name. So what are you guys going to use now for hunting bullets? I have about 75 of the 380grNFs left & 150 or so 340gr, so I was thinking of 400gr Swifts or maybe just go back to the 400gr Woodleigh. It was the first bullet I started w/ & it was very accurate & showed great expansion in wetpack, but the 380grNF was just so sexy looking & had to switch.

I like the Barnes 400gr solid, maybe the 400grTSX. Anyone hunted the TSX yet?

Next best will be the 400 grain Swift.

But I would practice w them and enjoy many years hunting with your NF's!

I had a client last year who if I remember correctly was using the TSXs in his 404 and they performed pretty well.

In my 404 and in my 500, I use Woodleigh SP or PSP and GS Custom mono solids. - All perform very well indeed and I see no reason to change.

If you like the Northfork mono solid, you'll probably like the GS Custom as I'm told they're very similar.

Woodleighs are tough and get the job done on tough game. For non DG game on this side of the pond, Hawk Bullets, or as Jeff like to call them "Hawk Grenades" will do nicely. On deer size game the .035 & .050 jackets are OK. for larger non DG the .065 jackets.

Thanks guys, maybe I'll give the Swift a look. The TSX would interest me more if it were just abit shorter, maybe 370-380gr. I can get & have used the Woodleigh for practice & they seem to hold up well at the 2200fps I push them. I'll just have to hoard my little stash of 380grNFs for now.

I just returned from cameroon and used my AHR 404 with 400 grain TSX. i shot giant eland, roan, buffalo etc with it. the shortest shot was 50 yds and the longest was close to 200 yds, everything died very fast and the TSX oerformed perfectly. I was more than impressed by them, this was my 24th safari and I have always loved bear claws but last year in Botswana and this year with eland i am convinced the TSX is great in the 404

I have used the Woodleighs for years and never had a failure, I will just go back to using them in my double rifles and bolt guns also.

I also like the GS Custom bullets very well..They work like a charm and are fail proof as far as I can tell..Their flat nose solid is the creme de creme of solids.

I use Swift A-frames and Woodleigh solids. Both shoot to same POA and feed very well in my rifle. That's the combo I'll stick with.
