NBHunter416 Taylor and 400gr.X data anyone
I just ordered some 400gr X bullets for my Taylor and was wondering where to start in load data using Rel 15 if possible. I have been using 350gr magtips until now but Midway had the X's on sale for cheap. It says that they are XLC's but the pic shows a naked version. Doesn't matter to me as they were a good deal.
Help will be very welcome.

470 MbogoYou may find that the 400 X bullet is a bit much in your Taylor unless you have a magnum length magazine box. I have a Ruger which keeps me to the 30-06 length unless I want to single load. Reloder 15 is a good powder for the 400 grain bullets and most bullets as far as that goes.
Take care

BuddyK-9Do a search for 416 Taylor in this forum and you should find a link to the 416 Taylor web sight or search by entering 416 Taylor on the web.

NBHunterSearched the Taylor site and nothing for the 400gr X. How much should a person drop back from typical 400gr rn data?

470 MbogoHi NBHunter,
The reason would be they are too long for the short Taylor case like the .458 500X for the 458 Winchester. You are going to be forced to download from any max or close to max 400 grain load for a Hornady 400 bullet. If you would like to optimize your Taylor with a good quality bullets stick to the 350's like the Swift. Sell your 400's to someone with a Rigby or maybe even a Remington.
Take good care,
Dave

Frank MartinezI don't know if you're up for this or if these will help you any, but,
I have several unopened boxes of Hornady .416 400 gr. FMJ's and no Barnes in the .416. I would be willing to do a straight trade if this will work for you. Mine come in boxes of 50 and were priced at 43.25 if that matters to you. I am hoping yours will work in my rifle.
If not, that's ok too.
Let me know.
Frank

MTMI load 325 Xs in my buddies Taylor and in the standard mag we're going with fairly severe compression. I would assume the 400 would be way worse.
