Funky safety on a Whitworth?
I was at the Valley Forge gun show last weekend and one vendor had a Whitworth barreled action in .375 H&H. The safety was mounted to the trigger and had a huge (at least to my eye) thumb piece made of some light colored metal, probably aluminum. It also seemed to slide in a straight line instead of rocking like the shotgun style safety that most of the Whitworth rifles seem to have.

The action was in a box marked "Interarms" I believe and I was curious if that was a normal trigger / safety setup?

Sounds like the same mod that Harry Lawson does to Remington 700s.

Try to look unimportant. Your enemy might be low on ammo.

Grenadier,

I believe that's the "shotgun" style that you normally see, like the one that Remington is using on the M798.

The one I saw was an "L" shaped blob that would be a lot more positive to find with your thumb in a hurry, but not nearly as streamlined for appearance sake.

And this is my 1,000th post on AR. Big Grin

Rick,

The pic in the link within the previous reply shows the trigger in the Mark X I have ... but have removed in favor of a Timney trigger and left side FN safety. If you want the one I took out, you're welcome to it!

Mike,

Thanks for the offer, the safety on that action was just so fugly I had to find out if anyone actually had a rifle with one Wink

I'm pretty much done remodeling Mausers for a while (at least I keep telling myself that). Big Grin

Rick,

I was wondering if you'd had a "taste" transplant ... and why in the world you did it. But we try not to tell our dear friends they need to seek professional help other than gunsmiths Wink

Yeah, yeah ... like I am done with the rifles thing too. What would I do if all the projects were done? I'd be pushin' up daisies, of course!

For a while the adjustable trigger was an option on Mk X rifles and a lot of them came with a simple military trigger. The side safety slides back and forth, not a rocking motion like the adjustable one. When slid forward a piece of sheet metal slides under the tigger preventing it from moving. Crude, but it worked.

I saw that action also. Roger Burris from King Shooters Supply has it for sale. I know Roger and his wife Pat from my gun club and they're both great people, so if you decide to buy it don't hesitate to do business with them.

Tigger,
This was an adjustable trigger, the safety moved as you described.

Labman,
So I wasn't hallucinating? Wink I only spoke with the lady running the table and she seemed like good people.
I've sworn off buying rifles till after I get back from a PG safari to RSA in June. Big Grin
