I think squeezing the "back end" of the extractor might be the problem. The German army taught their soldiers to press the mid portion of the extractor, which allowed the extractor to spring out enough to allow them to chamber a round. Give it a try.

Yes you can have the extractor modified for singel round feed. My .458 Lott built by AHR has this modification. When in Tanzania last month I used it to carry 6 rounds in the gun five solids in the mag with one soft in the chamber.
I bet over the few weeks I was there I did this 30 or so times or more, soft up out of the truck walk a few hours unload back on the truck ETC... you also have the option in the rare case you run the rifle dry to load one round in the chamber at a time a must in a DGR rifle IMO.
