EOTech on a big bore?
Has anyone ever tried it? I have ben playing with one a little this weekend and was thinking it would be great on a 600 Overkill but would most likely not handle the recoil.

Any experience out there?

I have shot several thousand rounds through my 500 Smith & Wesson and am amazed at the endurance of this sight.

An aimpoint Micro would be significantly closer to the bore.

Like Blake, I have had one on a 500 S&W for some years without any issues.

I tried the new aimpoint on my double. Its long enough to fit in the scope rings, with out covering the action lever. I like the sight picture, only one problem the bell would not clear to allow the claw mounts to release. I went with the 1-4 Nikon African 30 mm. Works with both eyes open but is 10 oz heavier.

A friend has a micro on his 500. First the mounting pracket which actually contacts the 1913 rail tore off the tube of the sight. Aluminum actually tore. Aimpoint fixed it. Next thing was the unit stopped working. Aimpoint fixed it but it took two months and had to go back to Sweden. I like the sight and would rather have that slick little unit on my gun, but the reliability is not there at that level of recoil.

Take a look at the Docter Optic.

The 4 minute dot is the one you want.

As holosights and red dots don't usually weigh much, inertia is less of an issue.

Thanks guys, I will look these up.

450 #2 what is your Dr Optic on and how many shots has it lasted?

I have them on an AR, and on 2 Blaser R 93 Tracker barrels, a 308 and a 375 H&H.

Probably around 200 hundred rounds each on the 2 Tracker barrels, give or take a few rounds.

The EO Tec is a good sight, I have one,but for a hunting gun I like the Docter Optic much better.

They mount them on the slides of semiauto pistols. I have not heard of any recoil issue problems.

I asked this on the Optics board but got no answers. Who has the best price on the Docter Optic red dots? Will they hold up on a 500NE?

I like Holosights ... but they really look weird on a bolt or double rifle.

I made a mount plate for a Burris FastFire II that fits into the front sight dovetail of my Searcy Field Grade .470 NE DR. Doesn't look bad and works really well! Is of the same ilk as the Doktor Optic sight ... but cheaper.

(Yes, I did Gun-Kote the mount black before putting it in service Wink )

How do these holograph sights work out in wet and rain conditions? Can you still see the red dot clear enough? I know the aimpoint red dot has flip up covers, but holosights don't seem to have quick removable covers.

I put one on a .450 Marlin.
I had a Monarch Gold that the zero kept shifting and I couldn't group under 5" at 50 yards. Mounted the EOtech and I can group 2" at 100 yards with the same batch of factory ammo. I think they are a great choice for close range hunting. I really like the 60 MOA ring for close range, quick shooting.
