Mickey1Daniel Fraser
Does anyone have the current address and website information on Daniel Fraser?
Also does anybody know the type of action and who made it on this Daniel Fraser 450/400 3.25? One person suggested it is a Belgian action. I have seen it on an Osbourne and on a Watson Bros also.

<400 Nitro Express>Mickey:
Last address I saw for Fraser was either Inverness or Cromarty, can't remember which one. I'll see if I can find it.
Yeah, my Watson Bros. .450/.400 3 1/4" had the same action with the same bolsters, but without the sideclips. Doesn't look like Webley to me. Trade action from somewhere.

ExpertShooterMickey I think that the action you have is a Daisy Red Rider.

<400 Nitro Express>A local doc here has an H. J. Hussey .450/.400 3" that looks just like that.

mehulkamdarI remember reading an article in Guns and Ammo about 20 years ago that the ailing Daniel Fraser company had been bought by the US firm Thad Scott. There was a write-up on some beautiful .22 lr and hornet rifles that had been made on a proprietary falling block action at the time.
The current Thad Scott website doesn't have any details about the Daniel Fraser line, so I guess they probably sold the company. Do try mailing them to check - they might be able to help with old records if they still own the old Scottish firm.
Congratulations on a beautiful gun and good hunting!

MarrakaiThose distinctive bolsters are trade-mark Lincoln Jeffries. He was a Birmingham 'maker' who put up guns under his own name and probably supplied to the trade as well. I have seen two so-marked in the flesh, both with the wide bolsters, and have heard of several others in Australia. His works were in Whittall Street from 1873 to the turn of the century, then in Steelhouse Lane and Bath Street thereafter. Heavily involved with BSA in the manufacture of air-guns, and was still manufacturing 'Marksman' air gun pellets in 1988 according to Boothroyd.

Of course, its always possible that Lincoln Jeffries snuck off to Belgium once or twice a year with his cheque-book.......
