Idaho Sharpshooter500 Jeff or 505 Gibbs
Cal,
With 600gr Hawk bullets, softs and solids, I can run over 2600fps. IIRC, about 135gr of 335 was around 2560fps.
The top load was just over 2600fps, and the ME was a bit over 8200ft/lbs. On a P-14 action.
Recoil is, shall we say, substantial...

Has it got a muzzle brake....
Reason I ask is a 460 with a compressed load of 4350 and 500 grain is just over 2600 f/s and without a brake it feels like a car accident!!!... that is on the bench or improvised field rest.

Thanks mate, I will look forwad to that. A quick red dot sight would be ideal for close work in the scrub.
Have you done your NT hunt yet?

AtkinsonI had a 500 gibbs, Pierre von Tonder had a 500 Jefferys and I shot them both a bit...
Actually I didn't care for the recoil they produced as return to sight plane was slower than most big bores, and I got a few nose bleeds along the way, extracting my thumb from my nose was problematic in a tight spot!.....I went back to the 404 Jefferys and .416 Remington...but of the two I belive I liked the 500 Gibbs best as it had a staggard magazine and the 500 Jefferys was stacked.
As to the balistics it made no difference, they both did what they were designed to do..
