Should you shoot it first or get bedded. Back in the day the advise was bed before shoot.

Every rifle, regardless the cartridge chosen, requires bedding.Bed it before you shoot.

If it has a second recoil lug on the barrel in the forearm, then you need to do the bedding in two stages. Do the main lug, then the barrel lug, taking care not to introduce any additional pressure.

Can Winchester Australia supply a replacement stock if you break it? The CZ550 Magnums aren't being brought it anymore, I think not bedding it is a warranty money back in the making.

You should fully bed any walnut or laminate-stocked CZ,
from relieved tang to barrel lug, or risk breakage.

The "Kevlar"-stocked ones with aluminum bedding block may be allowed to bed themselves into the aluminum,
or "aluminium" for those who talk funny,
but even those will be more accurate with proper bedding.

Hi PC,

I would definitely bed it. A few of my friends have CZ's and all have split without bedding. Mine broke through the grip. (Although it was from falling over).

I don't think the standard CZ stocks are that good. If taking it on an expensive trip I'd put a synthetic or replacement wood stock on it for added peace of mind. Mine broke in Africa and it could have buggered a trip.

My experiences moly and I'm sure there's plenty out there still in one piece.

Other than the stock I couldn't be happier with mine.

Cheers

There was a discussion on this forum when CZ was first making big bore rifles and they had stock splitting problems.
The consensus of the forum was that 375 H&H or above should have two crossbolts and be fully glass bedded with attention to the wood at the back of the tang.
Good idea ! tu2
