Speer .375 Boat Tail Soft Points for plains game?
These bullets shoot very accurately in my rifle, but they're supposed to have a thinner jacket. Are they suitable for African plains game. Gemsbok and zebra are the toughest animals on the menu. Anybody have any experience/recommendations with this bullet?

Thanks,

Steve

I have not used this bullet in my .375 I use the Hornady RN 300 gr bullet but in Craig Boddingtons Book Safari Rifles he gave that bullet the OK for plains game if I recall. I think on plains game it would be fine but for buff I would use a woodleigh or barnes x.

I seriously doubt that there is such a thing as 280 grs of 375 cal. at 2500 FPS failure on plainsgame...at least I have never witnessed it..I wouldn't be at all conserned.

But there are only a few logical reasons to use a .375 for plainsgame..It would not be my choice unless I was hunting plainsgame in dangerous game country.

PC and Ray,

Thanks. You're right, of course; there's no real logical reason to bring the .375 for plains game. But it's my first trip to Africa. And the excuse I used to myself when I bought the gun was that I was buying it "in case I ever get to hunt in Africa." Plus it's a beautiful rifle with a nice trigger and a smooth action. Not one of my best shooters, though. I've been thinking of bringing the ugly, black, parkerized .300 Remington Ultra Mag. It shoots factory 180 grain Nosler Partitions under .75 inches. Took the .375 and the .243 to customs to get the form done, though. Might run up there again tomorrow and do another form with the .300RUM and the .243. Oh boy.

Thanks,

Steve
