Thebear_78Skinner sights
I have been looking into possibly altering some skinner peep sights for my upcoming big bore builds and have been really impressed with the sights. Also the owner has been extremely helpful and prompt with correspondence. I think these may be a good option for some of the big bores you guys are building.
I'm pretty sure I can fit one of their tactical winged sights for the 1895 marlin onto the rear bridge of my 17 enfield action for my 458 build. I had also looked at the wild west guns peep but like the fact that the skinner is all american made and the owner has been much more customer friendly than the WWG management.
Their low pro mount would be very easy to incorporate into a scope base by simply tapping another hole in a steel base. It would make for a great backup sight for a scoped rifle. They also have a couple of prototypes that will be a good addition to the sight options out there.
I'm not affiliated with skinner sights in any way just very satisfied with their customer service.
Skinner sights This is one of their prototype sights on a big bore mauser 98.

PoppaWNice lookin sight. I went with the XS in a scope base for my 510 Wells. I really like how fast a ghost ring setup is and its proving to be very accurate at big thumper ranges.

Bullet_.375It looks like a awesome sight.
Is it easy to adjust?

tiggertateElevation yes, windage not so much. It looks like that prototype base has lateral slots for the bridge screws that alow the upper half to move. That would be a PIA to adjust without some hash marks to know where you are...
But over all I like their sights. I have them on my Marlin 336.

Thebear_78I was thinking that by cutting it short their tactical marling site would fit well on my m17 action. I can easily mill the back of the action flat to match the contour of an 1895. My only concern is that the windage adjustment screws would be the weak link. Under the heavy recoil of a 458 Lott I am concerned they might shoot loose.

I'd also reduce the thickness of the wings; maybe lower them some. That setup looks like it blocks a lot of your field of view.

Bullet_.375I bought a peep sight at a shop specializing in customizing handguns. They ordered the sight thinking it was something else and was just collecting dust on the shelve. I found it by accident and it has served me well on my .375H&H since then.
I love the peep sites but it is obvious that this was designed for a Marlin and therefore do not fit the curve of the Mauser. It adjusts easily and is very small.
