That is nice. When did Heym start to make their rifles in a straight stock? Every other Heym I've seen had that European stock on it. I always like dark wood in the big boys.

Bravo, George!!!

It shoot very, very well...Very accurate for such big bore...The recoil, too soft for a .460. Very diferent from a weatherby rifle.

I didn't know Heym made 460 wby's. How many will it hold in the box? Looks like a no excuses hunting rifle. Thanks for posting the pics.-Rob

Heym started to make these rifles about one year ago... The rifles that you relate with european stock are the SR 21 model.

Hi Pedro,
That's one very nice nice looking rifle. The straight stock is one of the keys to taming recoil. If you combine that stock with the Pachmayer F990 pad it would reduce it again. Congratulations on a very fine rifle. I really like the look of the Heym rifles. Especially that 600 bolt rifle they built. Your rifle has beautiful lines to it and calls Africa.

1) Is that new-production A-Square ammo in those pics? Are they truly "back"?



2) Although I'm almost afraid to ask...how much do those run? I see that have a .600NE & .500 A-Sqr, too...

If you load 500s at 2300 or 2400, you'll be in high cotton.

The Heym in 600 NE runs $13,000 new. They take 6 months to one year to get ahold of. The action is a double square bridge magnum mauser with a 0.750" bolt body diameter, and the left lug has meat ahead of the bolt face to serve as a holder for that giant rim. The magazine is a drop box that holds 2 rounds down. Weight is about 15 lbs. Recoil is severe but manageable. It is important to hold the rifle tightly. If the shooter does that, then he will experience a very big push. My only complaint is that damn red recoil pad. It needs to be changed for a softer, more shock-absorbing pad. The rifle is very accurate and I can shoot 3 shots into 3 inches offhand at 50 yards.

For anyone willing to spend the money and looking for a nice magnum mauser, Heym provides one. But I would also suggest looking into the work of Joe Smithson and Ryan Breeding, as they make very, very fine big bore bolt guns as well.

This rifle, 460 Weath.Mag., .500 A-Square, .450 Rigby, .458 Lott, .450 Ackley, .500 Jeffery, .505 Gibbs runs about $7500 new in Europe and it take 3 months to get ahold of.

Mike, for about $6500 they also make the .378Wby and .416Wby
