ya, Great Northern guns is a hang out for me, now if they would put an espresso stand with free wifi, i think i would setup a office there! I feel bad, but they did not have one!

It is one of the best new offerings of the decade. Yes, everyone needs a 416.
Enjoy the loads and hunting. That Ruger will handle anything you put in it. Just decide whether you want monometal or lead core. Flatter or heavier. A happy compromise is the 350gn TTSX at about 2600fps with good wind resistance and a .444 BC. If you add a flatnose solid for elephant, hippo and rhino, you're good for anything on the planet, near or far.

350-grain TSX in my .416 Rigby at 2500 fps works great for me using H4831SC. Listen to 416 Tanzan...

How is the recoil at that speed. I hear that the 416 Ruger is not that bad at all compared to the Remington or the Rigby.

Recoil is mental. I would recommend a lot of dry firing (and or with 'snap-cap'), keeping the the sight picture "perfect". I prefer keeping my head relatively erect and would not recommend any scope that dips below 3.5" eye-relief.
My experience with 416's has been primarily Rigby, where we load at 2800+fps. Why? Because we can. And we need to turn the Rigby into a one-rifle hunt, from buffalo to longer range.

As for powders, many will work if you only aim at 2500fps with 350 grain TTSX. I would look at powder speeds between H4895 and Rel-17, inclusively. Both H4831 and IMR4831 are probably too slow for highest velocity in the 375Ruger, but they may be sufficient. If you've got alot of IMR 4831 then certainly try a couple test series. If you can get the Fed GM 215 primers you are fortunate. You will need a good powder igniter.

For powder levels you can use 416 Remington data minus two grains. It seems that the Ruger overall capacity is about two grains smaller than the 416 Remington. That means that a manual recommending 85 grains of Rel-15 for a 416Rem load should be interpreted as 83 grains of Rel-15 for the 416Ruger, etc. I would want to try H4895, Rel 15, Leverevolution, and R-17. And IMR 4831 if you've got alot. IMR 4064 might be a good one, too. Hodgdon Hybrid-100, and Varget, and Ramshot BigGame are three more. Actually, there is a whole long list of potentials in this range.

Loading should be pretty easy after you find out where the lands engage a particular bullet. I don't know what Ruger uses for a freebore length. You should probably call them for the spec. (One guy on the web claims his 416 Ruger has 1.5mm freebore [0.06"!] so be careful with crimping grooves that might be set too far back on a particular bullet causing it to hit the lands on chambering. It's always good to double check what the rifle and bullet makers have decided on our behalf.)

Velocity differences between the two cartridges (416 Rem and 416Ruger) at equal pressures and adjusted powder loads are probably in the range of 10-15 fps. In other words, too small to measure accurately.

IMR-4831 would be perfect for the .416 Rigby with 350-400-grain bullets, but you will not be able to get enough of it into the smaller .416 Ruger to get top velocity.

Cram all you can of IMR-4831 into the .416Ruger and see if you get about 2200 fps with 400-grainers for a pleasant load.
That would be good enough for anything that walks.

Everyone does need at least one .416. It's amazing what follows you home sometimes. Very nice.
