mstarling350 Speer Magtip in .416?
Anyone tried the 350 gr Speer Magtip in .416 Rigby.
Looking for a practice bullet and/or lighter game bullet ... deer, elk, moose. These seem to be about half the price of Barnes X bullets. My .375 H&H really likes the 235 Speer so I thought I'd ask about the 350 Magtips.

snowcatI've been liking them in my 416 Taylor--2570fps so far from a 24" barrel with no pressure signs at all. Very accurate. Reports on their performance on game will have to wait until fall (unless I decide to carry it for spring bear!) They're going for around $20/50 here and feed beautifully.

<Axel>Yes I have shot them in a 416 Rigby. What precisely is it that you want to know?

KevinNYDo a search on them, they've been discussed before here. I use them in a 416 Rem. for practice, the only way to go for a practice 416 bullet for the money unless you cast. Ignore Axel, he's mentally ill.

<Axel>Mentally ill! Why would someone say that? I did nothing crazy with the 350 Magtip bullets. Try loads of 100 - 109 grains of IMR4350 and Fed 215 primer. I used both Federal and Norma brass. My group sizes ranged between 1.5" and 2.25" @ 100 yds.

<Axel>Sorry Ray, but those are the loads I shot those bullets at. I working on developing a 300 - 400 yard moose load! I agree that these loads are too fast for close range work.

RCHAPURAI have shoot several hogs with them in my Taylor , 2500 fps . they seem a little soft for really big game . some exit wounds running 4+ inches . It is a great deer Hog bullet. I tend to shoot things close . under 50 yards preferable . so at longer ranges it may do better with larger animals .

chuckbusterI used them for practice /forming loads in my .416 Taylor but switched to HAWK 350gr .050 jacket for working load. They are more accurate in my rifle, hold together and penetrate!!!
