Would anyone if the new hollywood press is large enough to take 4-bore dies? If not what press will take 4-bore dies?

My old Hollywood will not...My RCBS A-2 will take a 50 cal. machine gun case and I really like that press. Mine is a single stage.

The body of a 4 bore case measures 1.025" dia, and the largest press made by most manufacturers takes only a 1" threaded die!

There is a press, however, that the "weapons of war" boys use, that will take dies for a 20mm cannon cartridge. I have seen it advertized in Rifle, and Handloader magazine. It sell for, in the neighborhood of $300 for the press alone!

The standard press has a treaded opening for 7/8x14 dies, the A-2 will accept 1" dies, and anything over 500 NE needs the 1" die, but the dies for 4 bore would have to be quite large, with the shell it's self measureing 1.025" dia.

You might try the Old Western Scrounger. We have a press from them that we use for our 700 NE. I cannot tell if it work with a 4 bore, but I am sure they will.

It occurs to me that the big Corbin hand swage press could be modified to fit.

I do not know how big 4 bore dies are, but this RCBS press takes 1 1/2" dies.

Hollywood makes presses that take the 1 1/2" dies, in fact they made (and may still make) a huge monster of a turret press for 1 1/2" dies.

Al, I have an old Hollywood turret press that takes (4) standard dies and (4) 1 1/2" dies. The press has a 6.5 inch through which makes it long enough for most anything. I am not sure if the new production of Hollywood presses makes this press but in some of their literature they had this press for sale.
