Calling all 404 Jeffery shooters
.
A friend of mine recently purchased a one of a kind rifle made by Westley Richards. It is in a proprietary 375 cartridge based on a shortened 404 case. Brass was made by Wolfgang Romey and headstamped I believe 9.5x66. On paper it is very similar to 375 Dakota. Background info on this rifle is available in a letter from WQestley Richards. If you would like a copy of the letter, please provide your name and address and I'm sure a copy will be sent. My friend has 120 rounds of factory ammo. It is possible for a 404 collector doing research he may be willing to give up one.

D HunterAlf you and I have talked before about the 418-419 barrel in my C&H rifle. I have another 404, once owned by Ray, rifle in 423. I will see if I can research a bit more about the origin of this particular 419 404 rifle, where it has been etc. Does anyone have the ph # For C&H? I am also very interested in your monograph. Thanks.

AtkinsonI have owned a number of 404s..An original FN commerdial rifle, two cogswell and Harrisons (one had a .418), a WR and another English gun but have no clue who the maker was but it was a super rifle, an original Mauser or two and several Custom rifles that I have built, and am presently building another on an FN Action...
I have loaded for the caliber for almost 50 years and shot a good deal of dangerous game, and a world of plainsgame with it...
I don't know exactly what you want but would attempt to answer any questions you might have as to my experience with the 404...Of some interrest and not recommended my first C&H had a 418 barrel and I unknowingly shot .423 bullets in it for several years, but at greatly reduced load recommendations, but got velocities of 2100 FPS and no pressure that I could tell then...I was on my own as no one else knew what a 404 was in those days, at least in the ranch country of Texas!
