MarteriusAleck Maury, Sportsman
I have just read "Aleck Maury, Sportsman" by Caroline Gordon. It is a fictional autobiography based on her father's life, published in 1934. Perhaps it is not as memorable book as Faulkner's "The Bear", but it is not at least a very good illustration of the hunting attitude described by for instance Ortega y Gasset.
Gordon's books and short stories are mostly forgotten these days, but she was one of the great southern authors and was compared with Faulkner. There is a lot about her in the web, inkluding this review of "Aleck Maury, Sportsman":
