Book: (3 1/2 of 5 stars)Chesty by LtCol Jon T. Hoffman, USMCR (Random House, 2001)
A fairly long read, 500 plus pages, biography of Chesty Puller. He is arguably the most well known Marine. The only person to receive 5 Navy Cross awards.

I found the part about the Chosin Reservoir action in Korea to be most interesting because it tied in with the earlier book I recommended in here "The Last Stand of Fox Company." They were in the 7th and Puller was CO of the 1st Marine Division which was in the same area.

At any rate, a very decent read but not truly gripping, possibly because it covered so much time that it is difficult to give enough details for any one action.

I'd give it 3 1/2 out of 5 stars. Worth reading if you're a Marine or a admirer of the Marines, but not compelling. It certainly shows how good leadership and good training can make men perform above all expectations.
