NormanConquestNew Bell
Just got the notice from Safari Press that the W.D.M. Bell autobiography is scheduled for this fall's release + taking pre orders.Pricey, yes;but do you want it? I ordered mine.Kinda reminds me in a way about a few years ago when I wanted to see Leonard Cohen's final tour.No ticket sales until 10:00 Friday. I call at 9:50 + all the tickets are gone.Scalpers;don't ask me how.I'm so GD mad I could spit because the 2 tickets that I wanted at $80.00 were now $400.00. I have gotten older + did not kill anyone + told myself "He's 72 years old,do you want to watch him tonight or not?"Acceptance can be real rough when you know you're getting fucked.By the way,$140.00 is the price of the new book if you want it.
Never mistake motion for action.

nopride2They can keep their $140 book. I'll apply the money toward my next hunting trip.

BaxterBThanks for the info. I go hot and cold on safari press. I like the fact they put out interesting books, but hate seeing they are printed in Singapore or China. And their jacket and cover designs are by and large stale as 3-week old bread. Hard to tell one from another sometimes. The aesthetics should match the price. And whoever decided to print all of Months of the Sun on glossy paper should be relieved of duty. Piss poor decision in my book.
I'll wait for your review to see if I'm in line ;-)

cjfosterI ordered a copy several months ago when it still had a working title and think I paid about $120 or so.
I still haven't gotten around to reading the other Bell book they released last year.

NormanConquestBaxter,I'll be giving a review (FWTW) after I've read it but my opinion + 4 bits will get you a cup of coffee. I want the book because I am a book whore;there I've said it.I have a library full of rare + or 1st editions + a lot of esoteric tomes just because.Hell,I've got all the banned ones for the same reason. Tell me I can't have something + guess who is 1st in line. I agree that it is overpriced but I want it,so there.
Never mistake motion for action.

Understand completely. I'm staring at a stack of boxes that contain my books (have just moved) and wondering "where the hell am I going to put all these?"

tomahawkerAll Great reads!!! Just ordered Elephants and Ivory by Jordan from Trophy Room while waiting on Bell. Months is my ALL time best read. Flipping through Pete Ficks book.

tomahawkerFinally got it, #212. A couple chapters in and have to say I like it. Love the colored maps and Bells frank writing making it through editing.

Heeler75Mine arrived 2 days ago. #108. Like you only a couple of chapters in. Seems like a couple of discrepancies from earlier writings (the .405 Winchester should be .450 Express).
But as the books state sounds like Bell had different versions to the stories based upon memories at the time of writing.
Still good to read though.
P.S. I was looking at the map on the inside cover. I couldn't find the red line indicating his time in Uganda?

LHeym500When I ordered Dairies of an Elephant Hunter the other new Bell book. I ordered this Autograph by mistake. When I figured it out, I just got both. I have had Dairies since last DSC. My first Bell book, so it was all truly new to me.
My copy of the new Autobiography just came to Fay number 321.

NormanConquestJust finished the new one. GREAT reading even at that price.I appreciate in his letters (not bragging, just factual comments)about when needing camp meat he took out 23 out of 23 buffalo with one neck shot each using the .22 Savage Hi-Power.But then we always knew he was one helluva shot + expert on anatomy.
