Head TraumaMukiwa- A white boy in Africa
This is a memoir/ autobiography of Peter Godwin, a young boy in Rhodesiain 1964 as it sides into chaos. This a sort of "innocence lost" book as he is awakened to the struggle between blacks and whites and finds himself forced to fight in a civil war he detests. He later works as a journalist covering the birth of the new state of Zimbabwe. This is a poignant, compelling book. I highly recommend it.

dogcatHead Trauma,
Thanks for the tip on this gem! I just read it and enjoyed it very much. After having read about 30 hunting books, this was a relief and a good change of pace to learn more about Zim and what it is/was like living there during the change back to black rule. Good book, worth the time to read.

nkonkaDogcat,
now pick up and read without delay A Crocodile Eats The Sun. Same author but now he's older and goes back to tend a dieing father, at first. It chronicles 2000 to the present, and brings us up-to-date-, if that is possible, on Zim.

Singleshot03I just finished this book in the early hours this morning. A great read, some humor, and tragedy and sadness.
Sad to see what happened to Rhodesia.
One of the many interesting quotes was when they where talking about the locals being more afraid of the terrorist than the police and therefor would not help the police.
It reminded me of radical Islam.
I am off to start "When a crocodile eats the sun."

Bill/OregonI read Crocodile a couple of years ago. Did not know there was a "prequel."
Very, very sad.

JTEXI enjoyed them both, well written and good reading.
Funny though the people I have talked with about Godwin in Zim don't seem to think too much of him......
