Bell of Africa by WDM Bell
Just finished this autobiography of Bell by Bell. It is interesting and fills in a lot of gaps on his life. He was an adventurer from 8 years old on. He quit school a couple of times, was apprenticed to a trading ship, sailed to New Zealand and the South Seas (at age 11), went to Alaska for the gold rush at 17, was cheated out of his money, went to the Boer War, was captured, escaped, went home to Scotland, gathered up money to return to Africa all by the time he was 21.

Returned to Africa and hunted elephants by the hundreds. Had numerous adventures just exploring and seeking new places. At the outset of WWI, he enlisted, was trained as a pilot, shot down a couple of German planes, was shifted to South Africa and flew recononsence (sp?). He got out, got married and went back to hunting. Retired in Scotland and wrote about his adventures.

If you enjoy Selous' book, or Foa's, you will enjoy this one. It is not as intense or well writtern as Corbett or Selous, but it is worth the time to find it and read it.
