Warrior
Not a hunting book per se, but an interesting and well written novel of the early days of British intervention in South Africa....dealing with the Xhosa and the Zulu. A favorite author of mine.

Bill:

The heading on this thread led me to believe you were going to review Peter and Fiona Capstick's book on Colonel Richard Meinertzhage.

Second Bill: I found the Meinertzhagen book unreadably awful.

There is far more to life and to reading than just hunting and every once in awhile I try to introduce a book that might be of interest.
An attempt to broaden the mind.

I have the Capstick book and it is for sale.

First Bill: I apologize if my comment on Capstick's "Warrior" seemed out of place. I appreciate your initial post, as I have done quite a bit of reading recently on the Boers' side of the history of South Africa.

Third Bill:

No apologies needed. Your problem with the Capstick "Warrior" probably stem from the fact that Fiona Capstick finished it on deadline after Peter Capstick died suddenly. Considering it was her first attempt at writing a book, I think it turned out well. That opinion may be a bit biased, of course. She and her present husband are my friends.

I read the Capstick book Warrior and did not find it an unpleasant read. Wouldn't mind picking up a copy if I ever find one at a bargaina price.

If you have an interest in Colonel Richard Meinertzhagen, look for his book "Kenya Diary".
