"The Last Stand of Fox Company" Highly Recommended!
A couple of weeks back, I was stranded in Hattiesburg, Miss for a couple of days while waiting for a tire shop to open so I could buy a spare for a trailer I was pulling.

While I enjoy it, I can only watch so much sports on TV, and to avoid brain damage, I stopped by a Books A Million and picked up some reading material. Among others, they had "The Last Stand of Fox Company" by Bob Drury and Tom Clavin on sale for $6.97. It was money well spent.

A really fine read, entertaining, riveting, and factual of the Marines of Fox Company's living, killing, and dying at the beginning of the Korean War's Chosin fight to the rear. 3 Medals of Honor were awarded on the basis of this action alone. If you like military or action tales, you will not be able to put this one down. Buy it, you'll like it.

When considering US based operations of guides/outfitters, check and see if they are NRA members. If not, why support someone who doesn't support us? Consider spending your money elsewhere.

NEVER, EVER book a hunt with BLAIR WORLDWIDE HUNTING or JEFF BLAIR.

I have come to understand that in hunting, the goal is not the goal but the process.

As a matter of fact, just a couple of days ago, I mentioned it to a ex-(if there is such a thing)Marine and told him that several of the men in the company were shipped to Korea without the "benefit" of boot camp. He said that was impossible. Of course, he was wrong, but I just told him to read the book.

About half way through the book. It may be 90+ degrees in Houston but I still get cold reading about Toktong Pass. I cannot even fathom fighting in a foxhole when the temperature is 25 degrees below zero . . . when it is so cold grenades will not even explode. Heroes those men, every damn one of them.

I have just finished reading my copy, thanks Tim and Elton for organising it. An excellent account of heroic men in extremely trying times givng Chairman Mao a bloody nose into the bargain. Although, he, like his leaders really did not care about the loss of life inflicted on his people.

Unrelated, but not long ago I read an account in the American Rifleman of the Finnish Russian War where the grossly outnumbered Fins killed Russians with about a 10-1 or greater ratio. It was interesting to read that some of the Fin machine gunners had to be replaced because they could not keep on killing the Russian troops by the thousands. The Russian generals had no respect for their troops and kept pouring them into direct emplaced machine gun fire. It was, to say the least, a slaughter.
