NEW W.D.M. Bell book
Yep,in the new Safari Press catalogue. Never before printed short stories by Bell. There will only be 1000 1st editions printed.More bells + whistles in the 1st that won't be in the 2nd printing.I ordered my copy. They will be out in November. Cost is $125.00.I'll bet these go fast.

I'm surprised that no one has commented on this. Seems like a find of the century as well as in 2017 they will be producing his autobiography. Sounds good as well. I'm as aware of a con as the next guy but I don't think that Safari Press would print a fake.

I have one ordered. Am looking forward to reading it.

Safari Press says it has never before printed stories. However, I believe in one of his books he writes of driving elephants on an island and also hunting in West Africa. Both of those stories are in this book if I am reading the description that Safari Press has. No matter, I still will gladly add this one to my collection.

I had placed my order the week before. Saw it listed on Safari Press' website catalogue.

Bell did talk about hunting Liberia in his first book "Wanderings of an Elephant Hunter".

About a third of the way through it. Enjoyable book. It is not a chronologically organized story of a particular safari or period of Bell's life. It is vignettes about various people, events, hunts, experiences, etc. that Bell encountered during his time in Africa. So each chapter is a new "short story" so to speak. Like I say, I have enjoyed it so far. Because of its vignette style you can put it down and pick it up without having to recall what was happening when you last were reading. Seems to be all new material to me but I have to confess it has been a number of years since I read the other Bell books.

Moot point Mike. You know as well as me that when you saw it for sale, even at $125.00 you had to have a copy.I am guilty as charged myself.

Loved the story about guy building schooner/yacht without any experience whatsoever, getting paid for it and no one ever heard of the new owners ever again... oops

I think I will pass on this book.I read wanderings of an elephant hunter and can barely recall anything from it.That is an indication for me to stay away. There are not many African hunting books that I can recall anything from-I can count the good ones on one hand. All the rest were a waste of time and money or near so.

Shootaway:

Please do use all a favor and write a book about all your hunting, rifle, and double rifle knowledge. Who knows maybe someone over a hundred years from know will pay thousands of dollars for a first edition.

I will pitch the manuscript to Safari Press personally for no commission. The world needs this.

Boarkiller: Thank you that is tragicly halierious (I know sp).

It would be too specialized for most people.

So, I learned something at Safari Press both. I ordered the wrong new Bell book. I ordered the autobiography by mistake. It will not ship to at least December, or so I was told.

I had no choice one fur coat later, and I got the new Bell book this thread is about. Safari Press shipped it today to my home for no shipping. Shipping with these boys will kill you. Thank you Safari Press.

Anyway, now I will have both.

Shootaway, I was thinking Mr. Cal would/could publish your book. How about Death by mighty Nimrod. Should pick up the MS supporters. Or Of Cows, Bulls, and Bullets: Some Shots Only I Could Make.

Well, got it in the mail yesterday. Six chapters with the intro and forward down. Loved the medicine hunt where he convinced the locals he killed an elephant wo ammo and brought the tusk in alone.
