juanpozziIn this unit served a lot of hunters white and black with great bravery ,this like the selous scouts ,and the american deer hunters turned snipers like hatckock in Vietnam demostrates that training a hunter is easier and you get incredible results with them at war .The insignia was a buffalo head due to the numbers of buffalos of the Caprivi area and to the bravery of this animal shared with these soldiers, the 6 arrows represented the 6 tribes that served the ganguela, the kuangali buskussu, bacongo, lundachokue, ovibundo and kimbundu.Among the phs who served here the most famous was Daniel Roxo kia. jetdrvrSounds fascinating. I'll look for a copy.
Am currently reading "Congo Mercenary" by Mike Hoare. Want the real story on the mercs in the Congo in the 60's, here it is. (Not the Katanga thing. Stanleyville, and the Baluba cannibals.) Great read and a rare book. Expensive, if you can locate a copy.
Someone should write book on Executive Outcomes. They kicked ass in Angola and Sierra Leone, totally rendering the Sierra Leone rebels ineffective after a few weeks in the field, but were just too politically incorrect for the African Union, although they solved some problems in short order. (Even pudgy Bill Clinton was crying about them, although, as we know, his record in Africa was get to get a lot of good men slaughtered, then cut and run. I was there, before and after.)
It is said that Executive Outcomes cooled Savimbi down in Angola when he got a little too close to the oil patch in Cabinda, as I recall. Took about 30 guys to settle UNITA's hash in one night. But, it might have been some other guys.
