I was visiting my Krieghoff dealer the other day and saw this beauty there. Some kind of enamel technique. Pictures do not do any justice to this gun.



On the left is the underside of the receiver:
- Redhead on top
- Yellow Lab holding a Pintail

Receiver - Left:
- Mallards


Receiver - Right:
- Pintails


Trigger Guard:
- Greenwing Teal


Top Latch:
- Wood Duck

It might appeal to some folks, but not to me.

There is a lady in Italy who does that type of work, her name escapes me at the moment. The work I've seen of hers would be a bit better than the ones pictured I believe, but hell, it might be hers. I don't know of anyone else doing it, but there certainly could be someone else out there.

It's kind of like gold work, some can be nice but it can become overbearing. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder (and the Buyer) but IMO the dog and duck on the bottom might have been a nice touch, but having the colors everywhere is a bit much for me.

Is that supposed to be some sort of gree-winged teal/Northern pintail hybrid ? Having shot a lot of both it doesn't look right at all.

And I doubt that Kreighoff will ever see a duck hunt.

For a real duck gun, beauty is in the worn finish, corrosion on the rib, mud embedded in the checkering, the bloody fingerprints that have rusted onto the receiver...................

Case hardening is about the most color my tastes want to see on the receiver of a shotgun.

But to each his own -- the work on the Krieghoff certainly exhibits artistry and is eye-catching, even if not eye-pleasing to everyone.

I guess the gold prices is going through the roof.

Last week I had the opportunity to see a $160K Kolar while shooting sporting clays. Just the receiver was84K It's the gun on the home page of the Kolar sight. The engraving is true to the beater wings on the grouse. An unbelieveable work of art, and he was shooting it. I was overwelmed to the point I did not take pictures. I do enjoy the art of fine weapons.

Tacky and I think that it cheapens the look of the gun.

In fact it would be an absolute DISCOURAGEMENT for me to purchase a gun with such poor quality enamel work.

If you want to see high quality enamel work then look at the Holland and Holland doube rifles done for the Indian "royalty" in the 1920s and 1930s.
