small fishSteel shot with old 870?
I have a 50's vintage wingmaster with a mod.choke 28" bbl. I want to shoot some geese this winter and don't know if steel shot would hurt it or not.
Any ideas or opinions?
On Remingtons web site I believe they address the use of steel shot in older guns and they have a number you can call to find out if it is safe.

Skinner. Why bother with steel when you can use Hevi-shot for geese, way more effective. And your 870 is probably a 2 3/4 " gun and the best steel loads for geese are 3".
So try these,
Hevi-Shot 2.75" Goose loadsOr try the Bismuth 1 3/8 oz. 2 3/4" load of #2's. Midway has em' for about $15 for a box of 10.

small fishSkinner,Thanks for the response. I have a case of steel shot sitting in my closet. At $1.50 a pop,I think I can pick up a 870 bbl and go through the case for a little less than investing in new shells. The new shells look pretty effective. Thanks again.
srt,Thanks. I'll check into that.
