elkhntrAnyone have problems with Rem 870 when shooting slugs?
When I shoot slugs in my 870 the recoil causes the bolt to jam. A friend of mine has a similar problem. Is this common. I quit shooting them out of my gun because I was afraid it would damage something. Has anyone else had this problem?

243winxbthe can be a little sticky to eject with slug or heavy shot loads, but they alway eject the shell. Try a different brand of slugs to see if that makes a difference. Make sure the chamber is clean, scrub the chamber with hoppes #9 and a brush.

<rifleman>Never a problem in either of the 870s we use slugs in. They are both 20 ga, so that may be lighter loads, and easier on the action?

elkhntrThe bolt in my 870 gets pushed to the rear and jams in the bolt open position. I'll try cleaning the chamber, but I may need to see a gunsmith.

p dog shooterYou means it comes open by it's self and jams to the rear or when you work the slide. If it comes open by its self it need to be looked at. Sounds like it might not be locking up properly. I have shot hundreds of slugs from 870's and have had no trouble.

elkhntrThe bolt moves about half the way back, and jams. I have to use the slide release and apply a lot of pressure to get the shell ejected. I'll take it to the gunsmith tomorrow.
