Started shooting clays soon after the sport was developed to give hunters some practical practice. One was not allowed to mount the gun before the bird came off the trap except at the stations marked as similar to what a point dog hunter could experience in a bean field or corn stubble.
I found my Beretta 20ga. silver snipe I use in the up lands a very nice shot gun and I felt I was scoring acceptable scores for me.
then the completive shooters left the trap fields and skeet ranges and changed the whole idea behind the game.
got very snobbery in my area so I and a few friend no longer shoot sporting clays. We seem to have more fun these days when we can go to a place during the week and shoot a round or two by our selves.

Yeah , sometimes things get to serious and it's not fun any more . :-(

Sporting Clays IS a game, and a somewhat expensive one at that. There is no doubt that a successful shooter must employ some strategy at report doubles and true doubles as to where to break the first bird etc.
I do enjoy shooting it occasionally, but prefer skeet.

Look for a 5 stand course in your area..
the price usually runs the same as a round of skeet...
My wife and I use to shoot competitive sporting clays then stopped and became "club shooters" I shoot to enjoy time with my wife and improve my field shooting....
I always shoot low gun cause thats what happens in the field..
As the Pat's coach say's it's not the score but the process.
