7x57Savage model 311
I bought a 16ga. model 311 side by side last night at a pawn shop where my son works. It looks like a nice gun can anybody tell me anything about these guns. Is there any type of markings on the gun that tells what the barrels are choked at? Thanks, Bryan

DAMy dad got me a Stevens 311 when I was about 11 or so, now at 61 it still works great. If I remember on mine the left barrel is full choke and the right is modified.
It did not come with a serial number and I think Stevens and Savage were together or one bought out the other or something like that.

7x57Paul & DA,
Thank you for your coments, sorry it has taken me so long to reply. The first time I took the little 16 hunting I went to a friends farm to see if I could find any doves. I shot at three and killed two of them. I really like this gun.

243winxbIn 16ga. the 26" bbls had chokes of imp cyl and mod., in the 28" bbls the chokes were mod. and full. I dont know how many years they were made, but the model 311 is in gun books from 1959 to 1976 that i have.

HobieThey're cheap which is why there were 2 for me to inherit. One 16, one 20. Not the same model, strictly speaking, but the same design and working guns since the '30s and '40s. My dad did everything from shoot skeet to hunting ducks, woodcock, quail, grouse, rabbits, squirrel, and deer with the 16 ga. Bought when a dollar was dear to his farming family.

Bubba JohnVery decent inexpensive shotguns.I have had a 311 in the past, also a 511, which I think was a Montgomery Wards.
