Snakes are out!
My daughter went to TSC and bought herself some chicks with her birthday money a couple weeks ago. When she went out to feed this morning, she found this bad boy in the cage with two chicks missing. You can tell by the corresponding lumps in his belly where the chicks went. I was at work, so she took care of business and blew him up with her .410. We're calling her the serpent slayer. Lol.

Found this bad boy on my front porch yesterday hiding behind a bag of BBQ briquettes. And my serpent slayer was at school. Frowner
I had to take care of it myself.

Coral snake, not good, their venom is potent! I used to get them mixed up with the king snakes until my uncle told me, red and yellow kill a fellow, red and black venom lack.

Yes. When I looked at it I kept saying the rhyme in my head. We get a lot of copperheads and chicken snakes. Have seen a couple rattlers, too. We have already killed four copperheads this year. But, this is the first time in 12 years that I have seen a coral snake on my property. Luckily, it wasn't aggressive at all. It just wanted to get away. If it were a chicken snake, it would have came at me. Lol!

Lol!! Yeah, but the way I see it, there was even a serpent in Eden. shocker
And, I'd rather be around these snakes than the two legged kind.

I have lived in Texas all my life except for time away for military. I have never seen a corral snake nor it's look alike that the limerick (red and yellow kill a fellow red and black friend of Jack) was created for. Not sure if I've ever seen a cotton mouth. Did have a snake on a trotline once that I wasn't sure but thought may have been one. Have seen a bunch of copperheads and rattlers. I have travelled Texas highways extensively both night and day and all year around and have only seen three rattlesnakes on the highway--two at night and one during day. Where I hunt in Coke county there are lots of rattlers. Sweetwater where the large rattlesnake roundup is held is only 65 miles away from here. I've only known 4 people bitten by rattlers.

I hate those damn things! When I was young and mowing the lawn I would chase them with the mower!! Ya, I know blades wont get in the grass!

I know they offer a lot of positives but just never could get around to anything but hate for em!

12 years as a cop in a shithole city...never had fear strike me...seen lots of nasty, had knives, guns pointed at me, etc...put a snake in front of me and I'm instantly turned into a 12 year old girl and go into a frenzy and have to kill it! popcorn

That was like therapy right there....I'm sure someone will find my address and send me a bill barf

I let three rattlers the go about their business in the last two years. Everything in the eco system has a place. As venomous as coral snakes are it is difficult to get bit by one. Their mouths are tiny. Even with their jaw "unhinged" they can only bite you between your fingers or toes. They might be able to bite a young child or someone with very small fingers. They are also fairly non-aggressive.
