I was looking into buying a used Weatherby Orion O/U shotgun and was hopeing someone that owns one or shot one could give their pro's or con's about this shotgun.

Compare them to Miroku Dalys or Winchesters or even the older Citoris and they look haevy, clubby and inelegant. My view of the steel is that it is not as well hardened in the bearing areas and the fit is lacking.

That said they will work and last you a good long time, but...for the same money you can have a much better gun.

Steve, they were made by SKB in Japan and are good serviceable guns. I could not disagree more with the other comment.

With names like ORION and ATHENA they must be good.

FWIW I had one many moons past, I'm pretty adaptable and can shoot almost any shotgun (except for extra long LOPs and I'm not big on double triggers) and while I found it to be a decent gun, to me it did have a clunky feel to it, which may have been influenced by what I considered to be too full stock dimensions. I don't remember what I did with it, I do recall it had very nice figure in the wood, but I got rid of it pretty quickly.

OTOH the ligtweight SKB (500 and 600 series IIRC) O/Us were very nice guns but they couldn't stand a lot (tens of thousands of rounds a year) of shooting. I know, I won at least two state doubles championships shooting one and it was held together with duct tape and a prayer, stock was broke on both side plate extensions, ribs were separating and trigger fell to pieces but with a little fiddling I could still shoot it. Surprisingly, ejectors and ejector hammers never broke which is usually one of the first pieces to break under heavy use.
