old/new Ithaca model 37 barrels

I bought an Ithica m37 12 guage at an auction a while back, it needs a butt stock and a bbl. What is the difference between the new and old style barrels? I was told the new style starts at SN 855,000 and the old ones are below that. My bbl has serial number 167188. And also, does anyone have any idea when this gun was made? Any information would be greatly appreciated! Thanks
