I am trying to decide between a Beretta Xtrema or a Benelli Super Black Eagle 2. I know that the Beretta is gas operated and that the Benelli is recoil operated. Are there any reasons why one of these systems would be better than the other? This is going the be my first shotgun so I want something that is high quality and will last a long time. Please give me your opinions. Thanks

You will feel less recoil on a gas operated gun.

If this is your first shotgun purchase you should try to shoot several guns and see which one you like that best. That may be easier said than done, but that would be where I would start.

Handle the 2 shotguns and pick the one that feels the best to you. Ideal would be to shoot both before purchasing. Both are pretty much touble free as long as they are somewhat taken care of.
