Effect of eliminating the $200 transfer tax on Suppressors
As of Jan 1, 2026 the $200 tax on suppressors will go away because of the soon-to-signed Big Beautiful Bill. The senate parliamentarian removed the provision to take suppressors and short barreled rifles from the NFA list but the Republicans added back the tax removal. So suppressors will cost $200 less but still all the paperwork and background check will be required. I predict that sales will increase but suppressor prices won't go down much in the short term. If the background check and registration had been removed I would have a suppressor on every gun. But now I won't be buying but a couple more of them. Does removing the $200 tax make much difference to many of you?

Sure. Silencer Central will sell you the suppressor between now and Jan 1 and they will eat the $200 fee.

After Jan 1 there will be a rush to buy, and a surge in sales, probably accompanied by price increases. Then demand will level and prices will drop. In South Africa where suppressors are not regulated, they sell for between $50 and $350. I predict that will be our price in 2-3 years, especially if the NRA sues to gut the NFA as the Obamacare tax mandate was gutted when that tax went to zero.
