No paperwork?
I had a guy over at the shop this evening that claimed that as of Sept. 1st there will be no suppressor paperwork needed. Now I know that Gov. Abbott signed in the open carry to take effect on 9/1 but I had not heard about this. Is there any truth to this or just another rumor?

Randy, I reread it again but I'm still not 100% convinced. Don't get me wrong, I think it would be a wonderful thing but I'm still curious about the legality of this + damned sure don't want to be in the headlights of the ATF,etc. So basically, does anyone have current data about the legality of personally owned suppresors W/O tax stamps or registration?

We are one the same page. I have the same questions. Info is rather vague. I am very interested in how this will play out.

A good read that might help shed some light.

Whilst you won't be prosecuted for violating state law, you will be fined $10K, and put into prison for ten years, for violating Federal Law. If you own a silencer without registration. Not vague; clear laws. Unlike Mary Jane laws, which the Feds have decided not to prosecute, gun laws, they will. I do not recommend trying to be the test case on this; you will lose, in a big way.
Also the issue of the Federal Tax on such items; they will get you for that too.
One of the drug law provisions here, is to always charge perps with failure to pay taxes on their drugs; that way they are sure to have a case no matter what. However if you attempt to pay taxes on your cocaine, you will also be arrested, so it is a catch 22 situation.

So tell me of all the federal prosecution's for those violating the federal anti pot laws.

In the states that have made pot legal.

Can one still be prosecuted federal sure.

Will they could be.

How will they find out when they can not get help from the locals.

There is not a federal officer behind many bushes.

But if one is stupide enough to advertise the fact.

One takes their chances.

As I said, the Feds have chosen not to enforce pot laws.
Gun laws are another story and if you get caught with an un-registered silencer, you will be prosecuted. You don't want to be the test case on it.

That was my point exactly. I have no desire to tread in a gray area. Since the mariuana topic was brought up, I recall reading an article by Ken Kesey years ago about in California at the time, you could get life for selling grass to a minor, but 20 years for murder. So he said, Situation simple, if you're selling + the cops come in, kill the kid.

Kansas passed a law like this.

Two clowns did it and got gemmed up by the feds.

All you heard from the State (who these two were thinking would come to the rescue) went completely silent on them.

I am sure they would appreciate donations to their canteen funds while they are in the pokey.

It is not a good idea to play FAFO with the feds.

I was in the local gun shop yesterday, they have the Silencer Co Kiosk in there.

Guy explained it to me in this way.

You come to the store.

Pay for the silencer. About $1000-1500 for one that will work for a 300 Win Mag.

Fill out the paperwork on their kiosk. Pay the feds $200.

They fingerprint you in the sore.

6-15 months later the you go back to the store and pick up the silencer and paperwork.

Versus in Europe.

Walk into the store. Show them your hunting license.

Pay 275-450 Euros for the silencer.

Walk out of the store with the silencer in hand.

This is socialist Europe. Fucking gayer than aids that we don't have something similar.

Damned right. With the exception of the Euro (nice thought) the Europeans have some great ideas. I am leaning toward dealing with Silencer Central + let them do all the leg work, w/ payment plan + shipped to your door, + the benefit of knowing that it is done legally with no problems coming back to me. I like the payment plan course. You put it on your card for monthly debits W/ no interest for the 6 months that it will take anyway for ATF to approve you. At that time they ship + you have already paid it off in small bites.

Us hunters don’t use suppressors. Total us suppressors in us circulation is around 2 mil.

I like suppressors and I own a dozen.

I don’t expect us laws to change anytime soon.

No great demand for suppressors in the latest gun buying crisis.

I have several on rifles.

I don’t like them, as they add to the barrel.

No restrictions on them here.

Mike, I don't foresee any changes in the policy either unless under the new administration they would be more draconian.

Neither do I. Suppressors, sbr and machine guns will be regulated. Other stuff may enter the same regulatory structure.

I got a message from the NRA that the house just passed a bill (thanks Pelosi) adding an anti-gun bit of pork before they would approve the national defense budget. That's just wrong on too many levels.

You can buy weed, federal law prohibits it, but not a suppressor. The difference? Public opinion and very few Biden voters own suppressors while I am convinced all of them smoke weed.
