I'm trying to find a little more info for a case that we found on our property. It is s 38-40 WCF balloon head case. I know that the ballon heads in this caliber were discontinued in 1937. Yet, I suspect it is much older than that. I have never encountered a case with no marking at all or headstamp of any kind. There is a slight ring around the head half way between the edge of the rim and the primer pocket, but no marking at all.

If anyone knows what maker of ammo and when, would have been producing this caliber w/o any headstamp, I'd appreciate the info. Please email me. Thanks.

44-40 were made in Germany between 1933 and 1939 for Montgomery Ward with this headstamp.
