Wanted a 20 mm brass casing
I made my daughter a brass guitar slide from a 50 BMG casing. She kept dropping the glass slides and no company makes a brass or chrome steel slide small enough for her. She is 12 and has thinner fingers. Her guitar teacher thought the 50 caliber slide was kind of unique. I thought I would try and make one for him. The 20 mm casing would probably be about the right diameter.

I have a 20mm brass case from an M61 Vulcan that I use just as is for a slide now and then. It's a little bulky for bottleneck playing, but usable. Works GREAT as a lap steel slide!
Cool

I cut the base of the 50 BMG off and ended up with a slide about 2 inches long after deburring and polishing. It sounds good with an electric guitar. I someone wants to make a swap I have a few rounds of Peters 45 AC loaded shot cartridges with red paper shot tip. They look like a 45 acp but are shot cartridges.

First question would have to be, Which 20mm??
I can come up with a spent 20mm Orliken casing (20x110RB) if that would work, I also have a Inert 20x110 Hispanio round that could be dismantled, or do you need somthing the diameter of a 20x102 caseing?
There is also the 14..5x114 Soviet HMG casing to be considered.
Lots of choices out there.

Tailgunner,

I wanted a casing that has about a .75 inch or 3/4 inch inside diameter after cutting off a section about 2 1/2 or 3 inches long.

OK, I'll give you some external dimentions for the various cases, and let you decide which would be most approperate for your uses.

14.5x114 Soviet base 1.063, shoulder 1.017, length to shoulder 3.44
20x102 base 1.149, shoulder 1.054, length to shoulder 3.32
20x110 Hispanio 0.976, shoulder 0.945, length to shoulder 3.70
20x110RB Orliken base 0.990, shoulder 0.963, length to shoulder 3.91. Due to the blowback operation used on these guns, the case distorts quite a bit in firing, so here are the dimentions off a unfired 20x110RB case also, base 0.974, shoulder 0.952, length to shoulder 3.31

One case that looks closer to your required dimentions would be the 50 Vickers (12.7x120SR)
Base 0.821, shoulder 0.712, length to shoulder 3.70

Hope that helps.

Tailgunner,

Thanks you for all your research and measuring cases. The 20x110 Hispanio or 20x110RB if not too distorted from firing should be close. I wanted one with about a .750 inside diameter. The 50 Vickers might be to skinny as the 50 BMG measures .800 at the base and the inside diameter came out to .658 with the 50 BMG cut down. My e-mail larsrk@msn.com

PM your mailing address, so I can get it mailed out to you (depending on when I get your address, will be tomorow or next monday [work/home schedule thing]).
If you feel it's to distorted, mail it back to me. Fair enough?
