There is "MORE" to prepping then having "Stuff".
There is "MIND-SET". (I like this)

ALASKA is a "HARD COUNTRY for OLDMEN". (But if you live it wide'ass open, balls'to the wall, the pedal floored, full throttle, it is a delightful place, to finally just sit-back and savor those memories while sipping Tequila).

I totally agree about mindset. That kernel took root by Col. Cooper's teachings as well as that is just the way I live. I also liked clicking on to Sir Michael Caine reading Kipplings poem. I wasn't aware he had been knighted.

along the same line, remember John Wayne's last movie "The Shootist"? Of course, we all do + although I have seen it a million times I don't recall the phrasing EXACTLY when he is instructing young Gillam Rogers. "When confronted, some men will stall, think, take a breathe; I won't." That in a word is mindset.

Sometimes a 'stall' is worthwhile. When I hunted elephant the chosen tuskless cow was broadside with her entire head buried in the jess. We were 12/13 yards away and she finally noticed us as she backed out and looked straight at us. I had my rifle up on some sticks but Buzz did not have them up high enough for the shot. I couldn't determine that until she was facing us.

While the whispers to 'SHOOOOT' were heard, I had to ask Buzz to prop the sticks up further for my brain shot. I never took my eye off the rifle scope and he did so just as the cow began her charge. She got half of one stride in when I pulled the trigger.

Moral of that story is I made the perfect brain shot instead of botching the shot and causing potential injury to the hunting party. We were really close to that elephant.

I enjoy reading this subset of the forum. Some of it has made me re think but I do look at all of it. I am afeared we have tough times ahead. It's not all just having guns and plenty of ammo.
