CumbrianCaucasian chamois
I am heading to Azerbaijan in June to hunt Tur & Chamois.
I see plenty of tur hunt reports but never a report mentioning chamois hunting. I am curious to find out if any members have hunted chamois in the Caucasus Mountains and whether they would like to share some pictures.

monteroThere is a very scarce population of Chamois in the Eastern Caucasus. I have hunted myself in Azerbaijan only once, but have sent a numebr of clients in the last 7 years and only one ever saw a Cahmois.
Wetern Caucasus is a totally different story... I will be hunting there next September, and all the clients I have sent so far but one, took their Chamois. Most of them as a second species after their Kuban Tur hunt. In my opinion it is not realistic to expect to shoot a Chamois in Azerbaijan. It may happen, but it is not realistic to expec it.

Peter AndersenMy thoughts echo what montero has said. The west end of the range is much better for chamois.

CumbrianMany thanks for the replies I am assured that Chamois numbers were recovering and that there was a good chance of getting one however after reading your posts I'm not sure if my guide is being totally honest.

sheephunterabWe heard many tales of abundant chamois while we were there but never saw any and we were even prepared to hike to a new area they were reported to be in but it never happened. I think tales of abundant chamois and bears are little more than stories.
We saw decent bear tracks where we were Sheephunter. Enough that I would say chances of getting one were not that bad. It would be a tough hunt and they were not big bears but they were there. Chamois I did not see any sign of them at all.
Best place for Caicasian Chamois is Karachayevo Cherkessia ( Russia), you can get there also Kuban or Mid-Asian tur also , depend of area. But chamois is most difficult trophey from caucasian animals, because chamois prefer forest part of the mountains.
