Johnny rebI may be mistaken but I don't think you're allowed to bring one into the country.

monteroSlider,
In some countries (former Soviet Union) your particular line needs to be pre registered and will not work otherwise, Please make sure with your sta phone provider before you go!

SliderI rented an Iridium Sat phone from Global Com. I just talked to Customer Service. They told me the only Country currently requiring pre registration that they know of is Russia. They said the Sat phone will work no matter what but I could be arrested if I was not complying with the rules for individual countries? They referred me to The U.S. embassy in Kyrgyzstan? I sent The U.S. Embassy in Kyrgyzstan an E-Mail two weeks ago requesting info on importing a Sat phone and a Drone and have still received NO RESPONSE I leave Monday?

talentrecWe had an iridium phone and a delorme inreach with us when we went. Both worked great and there were no issues bringing them in. Our guides also had iridium phones. We actually had more questions about our communications gear from Turkish security than from anyone in Kyrgyzstan.

monteroTalentrec,
When flying back from my Himalayan Blues Sheep hunt in Nepal, I was flying Qatar Airlines, I had to overnight at Doha.
When going out of the airport I had my carry on scanned and stopped at the security control because of my sat phone.
They would not allow it into the country and they asked me to leave it at the customs, which I did. An officer was waiting for me at hte boarding gate netx day and handed it to me.
Ever since, I carry it in my checked in luggage.

talentrecI had my in-reach, spotting scope, binos, rangefinder, gps, boots and some camo in my carry-on. On the final security check heading home through Istanbul, the guy is going through my luggage. Pretty soon another guy shows up and ask me if I'm a soldier. I pulled out my camera and showed him a picture of me with my ibex. He congratulated me and sent me through.
