Ibex Hunt in Kyrgyzstan
We are off to the Naryn area for Ibex in the last part of October. Has anyone here hunted the area? I hear that it is a fantastic area with a beauty unsurpased anywhere. Conditioning has already been started and I'm crossing off the days until we hunt.

We are off to hunt east of Naryn in mid November for ibex.

Scottyboy,

I was curious to know what area your group was hunting. Did the outfitter say at what elevation your hunt would be? I want to wish you the best of hunts in November.

I only know the rough area, not exact areas.. We'll in west of Kara-say. We'll be at roughly 9300ft at camp, hunting up to roughly 13500-14000. We'll be there mid-Nov.

Best of luck on your hunt as well! Let us know how you do.

Scotty! Kara-Say is in Yssik-Kul, not in Naryn.

And thus hence the term "ROUGH". I could never begin to tell you where the "district" lines are drawn over there. I've never been. Only told the general area we'll be hunting.

So long as there's goats, I'm happy.

I hit the jackpot on my ticket to Bishkek!!! Delta took Skymiles for the flight and all I haft to pay is the tax!!! I might shoot a Roe Buck or Gazelle if I get my Ibex early since the flight is free.

Hawkeye, I'll quickly admit to not knowing the "Naryn" area. However, from what I have seen of Kirgistan, Ibex hunting is a high altitude affair. I sincerely doubt you'll find any (Siberian) Roe at the altitude where the Ibex are - quite apart from the Roe normally inhabiting much less severe habitats. So if you have your eye on Roe as a secondary trophy, I would be surprised if this was possible without a change of hunting area.

There are other Asian hunting areas (parts of Kazakhstan or the Altai spring to mind) where the difference in altitude between Roe and Ibex hunting grounds is not nearly as extreme as in Kirgistan. But even there, I have yet to see Ibex and Roe actually co-exist in the same local area (as Ibex co-exist with Maral, say), and mostly have to be hunted on separate outings from separate camps.

Good luck in Kirgistan.

- mike

mho,

I plan on coming down to the valleys if I shoot my Ibex and have extra days to hunt. I am aware that Roe are not high mountain animals. I hunted them in Germany and enjoyed it a lot.

Dear Scottiboy!

I think, that is your hunting camp in the mountans at Kara-Say.

mho,

You were right! There are no Gazelle or Roe Buck that can be hunted as an add on to the Ibex hunt in the naryn area. They used to hunt Roe Buck with dogs in the lower forests, but havn't done the hunts in over 10 years.

Scottyboy,

I have been thinking about the second Ibex and that is an excellent suggestion. A person could take the first good one he has a chance at and then hunt for a bigger one the rest of the hunt.

Who is the outfitter and or booking agent for your hunt? Any of you folks have other recommendations?

Hi Tim,

Harv Hollek is the agent. He has been involved with hunting in Kyrgyzstan forever. I'm not sure with whom he works but my friend Aziz hunted the same area with Harv and says it's a top notch hunt. I am burning up the bearings in the stair stepper and crossing off the days until I Hunt

Good Hunting,

Dear Guy's

I have hunted in that area before. (not the camp shown)

Drop me a line if you like.

Make sure you take your adventure pack with you.
Would have to be the worst most remembered hunt I have ever been on. It takes a few year to get over it and then enjoy it.

Would go again.

Mark,

What made it the worst remembered hunt? I have spoke with people who have hunted the area we are hunting and got raveing reviews from them.
What agent did you book with and with whom did you hunt?

Profyhunter,

Are all the Ibex in Kyrgyzstan Mid-Asian (capra sibirica alaiana)?

Hawkeye

Yes, all the ibex are mid-asian ibex. However, there are 2 color phases. In the north mature males will be pretty much monotone cinnamon to chocolate brown. In the southern parts of the country they will be cinnamon with a white saddle on the back, similar to Himalayan ibex.

Silkibex,

Thanks for the info. I look forward to seeing you in Bishkek.
