Hawkeye47Hunting in China
Has China opened it's restrictions on gun permitt for hunting there. I thought they had restricted hunting but I talked with a chap that says it's the gun permitts that are the problem. Anyone that has info please feel free to post it.

SevensYou can hunt Takin in China. One of the members in my hunting club did it and wrote an article up in the SCI magazine. I belive he was able to bring his own rifle and everything. If I'm not mistaken, you can also hunt some of the species of sheep in China, but they aren't exportable (the takin is though). Check with Bob Kern at the hunting consortium,
www.huntcon.com , he offers some hunts in China.

Hawkeye47DPhillips,
I think anything that's not on the endangered species list can be brought back to the US. The problem according to Bill Snodgrass( who has been escorting groups there for years) is that China has stopped issuing gun permitts to bring your rifle into China.
There are several species that can be hunted but it's hard to shoot them without a gun. Aziz and I are wanting to do a Blue Sheep hunt and possibly the a Gazelle or two but it doesn't look possible at this time. Things could change at any time though.

Hawkeye47DPhillips,
I have seen hunts listed for Blue Sheep and Thar in Nepal but they are much higher priced than China.

cjworldtrekChina hunting was not closed due to gun permits...it was closed (or this was the excuse) due to the public voicing negative comments after it was announced that they would "auction" the hunting permits to the few hunt organizers in China. This happened on about Aug. 14 last year...they said they would have a public comment period (in Communist China...go figure) and then they would determine what course of action would be taken. NOTHING has been officially done since then. Our people on the ground in China indicate that there is about a 60% chance that hunting will resume this (2007) fall...but I am more optomistic that spring next year will be when it happens.
Will try to keep you all informed as I get further info.
Yours for good hunting,
Clark
