Generally, it doesn't make much difference. There are more birds than you can possibly shoot any way.

I was just there in January and shot about 6,700 birds in 3 days. I have shot similar numbers in February and July.

The only thing you need to worry about is harvest time. The birds move somewhat for several weeks. I think that is March and April.

Check with your outfitter.

in Córdoba its a year round gig.

We hunted in BA province and Santa fe where although we had excellent shooting, it is more seasonal.

Everywhere in the world, harvest time screws up the flight lines for a while just like Larry says. It's worth considering, although many places in Argentina don't really harvest like they used to since the dove shooting became so valuable, so ask the outfitter for sure.

Los Chanares closes from 4/15 to 6/15 due to the harvest issues.

I have no idea about what they do with their guns.

I personally bring my own. However, it has become a major pain in the rear end.

I stand corrected Larry. I didn't realise that's had that much movement.

I know one of the lodges we used on the Uruguay river said that their season closed down due to the birds using different flight lines in the winter and summer, so although they were on the roost, (which we drove through on the way in and it was loaded) the birds would flight out in the opposite direction from where we were allowed to hunt.

I hear some of the pest control permits in November can be quite spectacular in the rice fields. Never done it though.

We tended to shoot early season in April and May as it fits our travel schedule best. we are limited to 150 shells per day each and manage to shoot them all with time to spare.

It's enough shooting for me and can be combined with some decoyed pigeons if more volume is desired, or perdiz for variety.

I always go in July for ducks. It is winter there and they have full plumage.

I am told it is quite bizarre. The birds are there one day and gone the next. They return just as suddenly.

This might differ from location to location.

I hunted Los Chanares in early March, unlimited number of doves.

Ivan Carter was there shooting as well & can attest to the volume!

Amazing to think that number of doves would be gone just a month later?

Hope to go back in 2016?

Did you take your own guns? Still trying to find out if it is possible without a face to faced trip to the consulate. We have re-booked to September.

Jim,

You certainly can take your own gun, Ivan had a Browning over/under.

Los Chanares has a splendid array of shotguns to rent, both O/U & auto's.

At 3000-4000 rounds, I just used theirs & saved the wear & tear on my own guns.

And 4000 rounds in 3 days is conservative!

We have special permits on duck hunting ,we just killed 100 ducks in a morning with a member of AR that will post soon because is on expedition yet .
June is very good because you can take doves ,decoyed pidgeons and take advantage of the duck and partrige season .
