Freezeout is where everybody goes because it consistantly produces good waterfowl numbers. Some 10000 swans end up there. I have not hunted swans, but many of the locals do.

Here is the Fish Wildlife and Parks office in Great Falls (406) 454-5840. Here is the contact information at the Project 406-467-2646. They will be able to tell you where to go.

I drew a tag to let me know if you want to pair up and go to Freeze Out Lake together. I have a good dog. P.M if interested.

How did you guys make out swan hunting ? I just read the thread. I was there last weekend ... talked to a fellow who had his ancient dad with him. He said that the old guy had had a heart attack, two strokes, a shunt, couldn't walk and his equilibrium was buggered. But he had a swan tag and obviously was in no mood just to hang around for the Grim Reaper to come calling. I whacked a swan on Friday and Saturday morning my amigo and I started walking into the 'marsh'... suddenly the sky was filled with maybe a thousand snow geese .. then some ducks .. and then perhaps 1,500 - 2,000 swans .. everything flying in different directions at different heights .. Lots of gun fire ... from all directions .. including an old man leaning against his 58 year old son's truck and pounding away with his shotgun. It was one of the special days .... Smiler

Nice words, and great image. Thanks for the smile! There's something special about waterfowlers, man. And if asked, I can't describe exactly what that something is, but there might be a clue in the last couple sentences of scruffy's post...

Got my Swan today. A nice adult that I jump shot off a small pond. There was 8 swan total and I saw another 100 flying around. Got him with my 2 3/4 1100. Knocked him down and he was trying to fly away and my Wirehair put the kybosh on him till I could get to him. Will try and post a couple of photos when I learn how to down load the images from my camera. SG olds could have used some backup should have PM'd me!
