Duck Hunting - North/South Dakota
I have been pheasant hunting in SD every year for the past 6 years. Would like to explore duck hunting possibilities in either North or South Dakota. Any suggestions as to how I can go about it?

First thing is apply for a license in SD. You have to get drawn there. The best way to duck hunt out there is drive around looking for water holding birds and then ask landowners for permission.

We go to north dakota every year, and while south dakota has a bit less competition, north dakota is a right to tresspass state, so unless its posted you can hunt it.... We still try to ask permision and try to locate the owner, but have had better luck in ND..... Buddy even bought a house up there so we can go every year.

waterfowl hunting here, for non residents, is done by applying for a limited issue license, and is done in a lottery style. If you do get drawn, it is relatively easy to get permission to hunt waterfowl, most farmers hate ducks and geese anyway. Decoys, or puddle jumping, you should have no trouble getting a limit.

North Dakota You will be suprised how often you will get permission. You will have to hunt in the am, then scout for the next day in the pm. Lot's of birds, just have to be flexible.
